Well sealed windows and high energy glazing save energy and provide a comfortable living environment – and that’s how the danger of mould growth increases. This seeming contrast is easy to explain. During the normal use of a living space large amounts of steam are released, e.g. through cooking, washing, showering or washing dishes. Also every human dispenses about ½ litre of water through the skin and even more than 1 litre through b ..
Window Coverings for Tilt & Turn Windows and Doors
We often get asked what to do with curtains or blinds when we make tilt & turn windows for our clients. Here are some possible answers including the latest in window furnishings. With a double or triple glazed Paarhammer window you should only need curtains or blinds for privacy and decoration, not for insulation to keep the cold or heat out. Having said that, it is always important to shade your windows from the summer sun with ..
Hardware - no longer just a hinge and a lock
The quality of window and door products is enhanced by hardware which seals against the elements, making the products easy to operate, while at the same time discouraging burglars. The tilt & turn hardware fittings feature the flexibility of two opening positions. The sash will swing inward - casement style - when opened in the turn position. Alternatively, hinges at the bottom and a tilting arm at the top allow it to open inwa ..
Blower Test for Airtightness

RAIA has recently awarded the Southwood House a ‘Commendation for Sustainable Architecture’. The owners Mr Southwood and family wanted something simple and modest, where everything has a function. They wanted a small sustainable footprint with solar panels, wind power, water tanks, recycled materials and triple glazed windows and doors.
The two bedrooms facing the street have oversized fixed windows to allow the northern sun to heat the rooms and an ingenious narrow strip of timber to the side which can be opened to reveal a screened vent to allow air circulation.
Southwood house achieves a 7.2 star energy rating. Paarhammer is proud to have been part of this sustainable and stylish renovation.
